VORTEX is the name of a spinning machine developed and manufactured by Murata Machinery, Ltd. The yarn produced by the spinning machine is called VORTEX yarn. (Note: Although it may be called "MVS", this is an abbreviated name for the spinning machine "Murata Vortex Spinner".)

For yarn production, there are Ring spinning, Open End spinning, and VORTEX spinning. VORTEX spinning is the third spinning method, developed by MURATA MACHINERY, LTD. The VORTEX yarn is formed by unique principles and cannot be produced by other spinning machines.

In both Ring spinning and open-end spinning, fibers are twisted by mechanical means in order to form a yarn.
In VORTEX spinning, a vortex of compressed air having no moving parts, is used to form a yarn.

Unlike other spinning methods which gives the twist mechanically, it is not possible to set the number of twist in VORTEX.
In VORTEX spinning machines, the twist level can be adjusted by the spinning speed or air pressure or both.

Basically, short fibers used for spinning (less than 2 inches/51 millimeters) can be supplied. However, fibers with high elongation & short fibers (length around 10 millimeters) are difficult to be twisted by air.
